NEWS:- ASUP And COEASU Strikes: ASUU Takes Over The Game

Following the “No Work, No Pay Policy” insisted upon by President Jonathan on Sunday, the Academic StaffUnion of Universities, ASUU, has intervened for the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP and the College of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, by firing back at the federal government that that is a wrong policy to adopt over this issue.

The national president of ASUU, Dr Nasir Isa Fagge, stated yesterday during a media briefing, “In as much as it is true that the constitution stipulates the no work, no pay policy, the demands of the lecturers are genuine and not out of place, and therefore advocated for a no pay, no work policy.”
On the agreement reached between the federal government and the unions, Fagge said, “It is not good for a government to enter into an agreement with trade unions and renege. What ASUP and COEASU are facing is not different from what ASUU faced and their demands are in order”.
When it got to the role played by the Nigerian police during the peaceful demonstration of ASUP and COEASU members, the union said, “peaceful protestwas one of the generally acceptable ways of expression and communication in any civilised system and as such, We are not aware that there is any law proscribing and or prohibiting protest in Nigeria for now”.
“ASUU therefore, unreservedly condemns in totality the inhuman and barbaric attacks by the Nigeria Police on protesting members of ASUP and COEASU “.
